ANNAPURNA - DHAULAGIRI TREK

2018 & 2019 - March 12 to 26, April 9 to 23, October 13 to 27, November 4 to 18 & December 5 to 19

You are about to embark on a journey that offers a combination of natural beauty, culture and adventure in the beautiful Annapurna region. This trek takes you through the Pokhara Valley with views of the Machapuchare, Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. We will trek through picturesque villages and walk along the ridgelines amongst the rhododendron forest with stunning vistas to all the high peaks in the region – Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri and Annapurna South, Lamjung himal, Annapurnas 1 and 3, and Annapurna South.

This trek will appeal to trekkers who like to experience village life yet walk through un-spoilt forest to view the beauty of the Annapurna-Dhaulagiri ranges. Our pace is relaxed, with some steep uphill sections and narrow tracks. There is an optional day to Lake Kaire, altitude 4500m, for those who want to take the challenge! It is a rewarding experience.

Trip Summary

Day 1 – arrive Kathmandu: meet and greet
Day 2 – fly to Pokhara: bus to Khari: trek to Australian Camp
Day 3 – trek to Landruk
Day 4 – trek to Gandruk
Day 5 – trek to Tadapani
Day 6 – trek to Bhaisi Kharka
Day 7 – trek to Christibung
Day 8 – trek to Kopra
Day 9 – Kopra ridge walk & gorge then trek to Christibung
Day 10 - trek to Swantha
Day 11 - trek to Gorepani (2874m)
Day 12 - trek to Hille (1430m)
Day 13 - fly to Kathmandu, rest of day at leisure
Day 14 - trip concludes after breakfast

Cost: US $2255 (joining Kathmandu)
Includes: accommodation and most meals, domestic flights and road transport, airport pickup and drop-off. A sleeping bag and kit bag are provided whilst on trek, plus Sherpas and porters to assist you en-route and carry your gear. A medical kit will be carried by staff.

Single Supplement: additional US $198

14 day Lodge based trek.

Moderate grade trek, reasonable level of fitness required.

Daily Movements

Days Avtivities
Day 1 Arrive Kathmandu, where you will be met by our local staff and transferred to your accommodation in Boudhanath. An evening meal will be held together so we can get to know each other.
Day 2 An early start. Fly Kathmandu to Pokhara, 25mins. Have lunch in Pokhara and drive to Khari (1hr). We then hike up to our lodge at Australian Camp for the night (2hrs). This is an easy day and there is no need to rush. We will have time at the end of the day to relax and enjoy the view of Annapurna South and Machapuchare, the sacred peak of the region.
Day 3 To Landruk (elevation 1640m)(5hrs). After a glorious mountain sunrise looking at Annapurna South and the sacred peak of Machapuchare we follow mountain trails through the rhododendron forest to the beautiful village of Landruk. We will have good views of Annapurna South from our lodge accommodation.
Day 4 To Ghandruk (elevation 2050m) (4-5hrs). You can see our destination today across the valley. Leaving Landruk we descend through the rice terraces to the river, crossing the steel bridge we start our ascent up to the village of Ghandruk and our lodge accommodation for the night. Take time to rest as you climb the stairs up to Ghandruk and take in the views down the valley.
Day 5 To Tadapani (elevation 2650m) (4hrs). Before we leave Ghandruk today we have the opportunity to visit the local medical clinic and museum as well as tour the old town of Ghandruk. Our lunch spot is a short walk up the hill through the rice terraces. After lunch we walk through the lichen covered rhododendron forest, passing numerous waterfalls. You may be lucky enough to see Langur monkeys on the way to Tadapani our lodge accommodation for the night.
Day 6 To Bhaisi Kharka (elevation 3420m) (5-6hrs). Today we leave the main trail and climb uphill through the oak and rhododendron forest to the ridgeline for stunning views of Annapurna South and Hew Chuli. After finishing our picnic lunch we continue our climb for views of the Dhaulagiri range. We are up high now and crossing the ridgeline with spectacular views down a number of valleys. The trail is narrow and follows the ridgeline before dropping down through the rhododendron forest to our remote lodge for the night.
Day 7 To Christibung(elevation 3100m) (3-4hrs). An easy walk through the forest arriving at lunchtime. After lunch you have time to catch up on your washing and spend time relaxing. Our lodge accommodation tonight is clean and comfortable.
Day 8 To Kopra (elevation 3660m) (5-6hrs). We start the day going downhill, meandering through the forest till we reach a sunny clearing for our picnic lunch. There are a number of streams to cross and if we are lucky wild strawberries to be eaten. After lunch we follow the contour upwards till we reach the flat grassy hillsides above Kopra. It is a long climb but the views are fantastic and are the best on the trek. At the end of the day you will be looking at the might of the Dhaulagiri mountain across the Kali Gandakhi, the deepest gorge in the world. The sunset and sunrise views are amazing.
Day 9 Kopra ridge walk and gorge. It is the highest point of our trek. The views on the way change constantly as we climb around the valley. We will take is slow, so we have time to take in the views back down the valleys as we head to Christibung.
Day 10 To Swantha (elevation 2400m (5-6hrs). Today we descend back down the valley. We may see shepherds with their goats and sheep, and farmers harvesting fodder for their stock. The walk to Swantha is one of the nicest on the trek, as we pass many streams and waterfalls as we walk through the forest. Swantha is one of the prettiest villages on the trek. It is a lovely spot to relax and catch up on the washing, enjoy a hot shower and may be a beer or the local Raksi drink.
Day 11 To Gorepani(2874m) (4 to 5 hours). Today walk is short but mostly up hill till you get to gorepani. gorepani is the one of the main Central point you will get there by lunch time and after lunch explore town,market of you can enjoy the view..
Day 12 To Hille( 1430m) (5 to 6 hours) today you will be walking mostly down hill so that be prepared for long step down hill. overnight at lodge.
Day 13 Return to Kathmandu by bus, (5hrs) rest of day at leisure before joining again for an evening meal.
Day 14 Trip formally concludes after breakfast with transportation to the airport.
