Annapurna Circuit via Tilicho Lake

In October this year, we set out for Kathmandu (yet again) to trek high (for us) into the Himalayas. We have trekked before with Keep Walking Nepal and maybe that is partly why we were so excited to be returning to the mountains we love so much. Not that the walking is ever easy, but the sense of serenity and peace we experience when you are among such giant mountains and such beautiful people is unbeatable.

Our plan was to return to Gokyo Lakes and trek back via Renja La after climbing Gokyo Ri, but the weather gods had something different in mind for us.

Our guide Tsering took us nice and early to the airport for our flight to Lukla (hang on to your

seats!) but the weather was too uncertain to land there so after a few hours we returned to the hotel hoping to get there the following day.

The next day followed the same scenario, weather issues, and again Lukla was closed. So because we had now run out of time to do our planned trek,

Tshering offered us a number of other treks as alternatives. Nothing was going to be too much trouble for him, and we decided it was to be Tho- rong La (again) but this time with a side trip up to Tilico Lake.

Our experiences on this trip lived up to and exceeded all our expectations. Tilicho Lake reduced me to tears. Its beauty is amazing! Thorong La is a big puff! But so worth every step. The mountains are humbling, and our experience again in this most amazing part of the world, I believe, makes us better people.

Thank you, Ang and Tshering for another wonderful adventure.
