The Langtang Valley Trek is a classic Himalayan Trek that takes you to the heart of the Tamang settlement in the Langtang Region of Nepal.
The Langtang valley lies north of Kathmandu at the foot of the Himalayas. Unlike the more popular Everest Trek or the Annapurna Circuit Trek, Langtang Valley Trek offers an unforgettable trekking experiences at a reasonably shorter time. The distinct culture, hospitality and way of life of the Tamang people, along with the mountain views, and the flora fauna of the region is remarkable and fascinating at the same time.
The 12-day Langtang Valley trek starts from Syabru Beshi and follows the trails along the Langtang River. The trek passes through the Tamang settlements and allows the trekkers to interact with the local people. The trek also leads to the ancient monastery of Kyanjin Gompa. While enjoying the tranquil surroundings of the trek, you will also get great views of peaks such as Dorje Lakpa (6966m) and Shishapangma (8013m), the only 8000m peak in Tibet.
The Langtang Valley has long been a popular trekking destination due to its sweeping views, interesting Tamang culture, relatively gentle pace, and easy accessibility from Kathmandu. But the 2015 earthquake and subsequent landslide had a huge impact on the region, and relief and reconstruction efforts have recently reopened this valley for trekking. Not only is it still a beautiful trek, but your visit will be an important support to local livelihoods.
We would be pleased to have you along on this introductory-level adventure and introduce you to our country and ways of life while you travel as part of my extended family.

Day 3: Private transfer to Syabru Besi (1,492m; 8 hrs) and hike to Old Syabru Besi (20 min)
While the drive to the Langtang valley trail-head at Syabru Besi is exciting; its equally long and exhausting.
You will drive along the Trishuli river for the better part of the morning and stop for lunch Trisuli Bazaar, the location of an interesting dam and hydroelectric project which was completed by the Indian Technical Mission. Along the way, distant view of Mt. Manaslu, Ganesh, and Langtang auspices of the views ahead.
The second leg of the journey can be grueling as the roads are partly tarred, partly graveled, and can have ongoing road works. Hence, depending upon the road and weather conditions (during monsoon the roads can be slippery), the total driving time can vary by a few hours.
If everything goes according to plan and you arrive at Syabru Besi by mid to late afternoon, you will cross over the Trishuli river to Old Syabru Besi.
Overnight at a local lodge (B,L,D)
Day 4: Trek to Rimche (2,450m; 6-7 hrs)
Today marks the start of your trek. With some steep stretches and an altitude gain of almost 1000m, the hike can be demanding but rewarding nonetheless.
Before breakfast, we recommend you visit the village monastery at the far end of the village. You will then follow the stone-paved main street out of town and cross a bridge over the Langtang Khola to a junction and continue straight to cross a log bridge for a pleasant walk through trees, side stream, and landslide to reach another suspension bridge and waterfall of Domen.
The next leg of the trail is a paradise for wildlife lovers and bird watchers. You climb alongside the river through the forest which is home to yellow throated martens, wild boars, langur monkeys, red pandas, Himalayan black bears and birds. The trail is marked at a junction with the higher trail leading to Gosaikunda and the lower trail to Langtang.
Beyond the forest, you will climb a rocky ridge and descend to the river bridges and waterfalls with a small hot spring across the at Bamboo.
Beyond bamboo, the trail crosses the Dangdung Khola and then climbs past a small landslide to a small suspension bridge over the Langtang Khola. From the northern bank of the Langtang Khola, the route climbs alongside a series of waterfalls formed by a jumble of house-sized boulders. The trail then continues on steep ascent through scree at the landslide in lower Rimche and climbs further ahead to upper Rimche.
You could continue to Lama Hotel, 20 minutes from Rimche and a popular overnight spot for trekkers on the Langtang trail. But it can also get equally crowded at times.
Overnight at a local lodge (B,L,D)
Day 5: Trek to Ghoda Tabela (2,976m; 4-5 hrs)
Closer to the mountains!
After a quick descent to Lama Hotel, trail continues mostly uphill on stone stairs, with sparse glimpses on Lantang Lirung. You will follow the Langtang river as you ascend along its left bank through an almost enchanted forest to the settlement at River Side (2,770m) .
You will keep on hugging the river on the left as you enter a thick forest. After a steel bridge crossins and a short steep climb the valley widens to a natural amphitheater. As you inch further, the landscape changes dramatically from a dense rhododendron and oak forest to almost barren land with sparse vegetation. A little ahead lies the settlement of Ghoda Tabela and also the gateway to the Langtang valley.
The overnight stop at Ghoda Tabela offers spectacular views of Langtang Lirung.
Overnight at a local lodge (B,L,D)
Day 6: Trek to Langtang (3,400m; 3-4 hrs)
The trail from Ghoda Tabela to Langtang village is considerably wide and comfortable. Along the way, you’ll be walking past several traditional villages and an old monastery.
Before you arrive at the village, you’ll be walking over the massive rubble of the old Langtang village buried by the catastrophic landslide in 2015 and a memorial wall commemorating those who lost their lives. The trail in this section is slightly tricky. So, stay cautious! After crossing this section, you’ll reach the new Langtang village.
Day 7: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3,860m; 3-4 hrs)
Today, you will trek to Kyanjin Gompa, the highlight of the Langtang Valley Trek.
The Kyanjin Gompa is a sacred Buddhist monastery and is estimated to be around 700 years old. It’s also the highest human settlement in the Langtang valley. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks of Langtang Lirung (7227m), Yubra (6264m) and Naya Kanga (5844m), the monastery is a symbol of ancient heritage and religious faith.
While the destination is the high point, the hike through scenic yak pastures and tranquil hamlets is also an unforgettable experience. Initially you will gradually ascend past a large Mani wall and cross a stream to reach the village of Mundu. Further along lies the village of Singdum from where you will cross the Laja Khola. As you hike, you will find that the trail gets more scenic as you pass farms, coupled with glimpses of high snowy peaks.
Once at Kyanjin, we recommend you visit the Yala Cheese Factory to sample some fresh yak cheese.
Overnight at a local lodge (B,l,D)
Day 8: Explore Langshisha Kharka (4,285m; 8 hrs)
You can rest at Kyanjing to explore the local area or hike to Langshisha Kharka and back for glimpses of the remote upper Langtang valley.
Overnight at a local lodge (B,l,D)
Day 9: Backtrack to Lama Hotel (2,470 m; 6-7 hrs)
You will back track along the scenic route to Lama Hotel.
Overnight at a local lodge (B,l,D)
Day 10: Backtrack to Syabru Besi (1,492m; 6 - 7 hrs)
You can either descent back to Syabru Besi on the same trail that you started or try an optional trail just beyond Rimche via Sherpagaon, Khanjim and Wangal. The trail is steeper and longer but offers better views and a more authentic experience as the trail is rarely used.
You will stay at the road side hotel at Syabru as you have an early drive tomorrow morning.
Overnight at a local lodge (B,L,D)
Day 11: Drive back to Kathmandu
You will drive back to Kathmandu along the Trishuli river highway and arrive Kathmandu by late afternoon.
Overnight at Hotel Tibet (B,L)
Day 12: End of trip
Depending upon your travel arrangements, our office staff will drop you off at the Tribhuwan International Airport. If you have some days before your departure, we recommend visiting Chitwan for a 3 night stay.

From initial email contact prior to the trip, right through to ensuring that we had the best rooms available, our recent experience with Keep Walking Nepal was perfect from start to finish. Being 65+ we were a little uncertain about our ability to tackle the steps and the rough sections of the Langtang track. Our extremely skilled English speaking guide, Pratap, was great company and kept us safe at all times, in what turned out to be a difficult trek due to constant rain and the consequent muddy track and landslips. Agreed adjustments to the schedule were made in line with the weather, track safety factors and our abilities – perfect guiding! Our guide and wonderful porter were obviously welcome and well respected at all our stops along the trek. Langtang Valley needs economic stimulus, having suffered terribly during the 2015 earthquake. It is a stunning area, and if you make it as far as Kyanjin, dont miss the new coffee shop just below the uphill beginning of the track to Kyanjin Ri . .. real espresso with friendly service. In summary, Keep Walking Nepal provided us with the perfect trip, every step of the way. They are trustworthy, organised, accessible and being local, embody all the values of Nepalese hospitality. Look no further! You have found the perfect trekking company.

I and my friend Jill signed up with Keep Walking Nepal to trek the Langtang Valley to the village of Langtang. It was an amazing experience.
We had a guide Pratap who was very knowlegable and always put our safety first as well as a porter, Kakka to carry our bags. Our trek lasted 12 days including a tour of Kathmandu.
The best bits were staying in the tea houses along the trek where we were able to meet the local people and eat some very delicious food including Sherpa Stew Soup. We were invited into the homes of these people and were able to watch them cook,
The village of Lantang is being rebuilt after an earthquake a few years ago. Jill and I were both pleased to be able to contribute to the economy of the commmunity.
As we are both ex teachers we visited the local primary school where we spent some time with the teacher as well as the beautiful children.
Although some of the trek was hard we always felt we were well looked after with Pratap carring my day pack and helping me over difficult parts.
Well done Keep Walking Nepal highly recommend the company!!

With extensive local knowledge and friendly, helpful service, I cannot recommend Keep Walking enough. They guided myself and my partner on both my first and second trip to Nepal, visting Lang Tang Valley and to Jun Besi health centre in the Everest Region.
This is a family owned and run business, and guides are from local villages, with local knowledge.
I will forever cherish my time spent with Ang, Osheen and Lakpa (and everyone else at the health centre and monastry).
And I hope to return!!
