Sikles Trek takes you through beautiful Gurung villages where a fascinating lifestyle and culture flourish. The trek pursues the narrow lanes flanked by stones and through the historically designed Gurung village, which forms a ribbon.
Sikles is a beautiful, well-kept village on a hill at 2000 m altitude. Famous for its well-preserved rustic feel, there are few better examples of a traditional Gurung village.
You move in the foothills at altitudes of around 2000 m above sea level and thus keep distance to the high peaks. Nevertheless, the hike is not as strenuous as it seems at first glance, it is also here in the famous “Nepali flat” constantly uphill and downhill. Sikles Trek is possibly a rich route in the sense of culture, hospitality, and the Himalayas. With a cultural variety of western Nepal, it has natural diversity.
Sikles trek also presents an amazing view of the Annapurna region with the age-long Jhankri and Lama traditions of the Gurung communities unique to the Western world. You will stay overnight in private houses (homestays) and thus get a genuine impression of Nepalese country life. It is also a rich region with an excellent place for birds, with nature and culture. It hosts shelters that are ideal for bird watching as well.
Experience the unspoiled Gurung culture along with an ancient water-driven flour mill as well as a traditional way of carving on the Sikles Trek with the Keep Walking Nepal family.
Our representative will pick you up at Kathmandu International Airport and drive you to your hotel. Depending upon what time you arrive, you can enjoy a full day at leisure and go on a welcome dinner with the KEEP WALKING FAMILY.
Look out for the KEEP WALKING NEPAL board behind the railing once you exit the airport terminal.
After breakfast you will experience 2 important sanctuaries in the Kathmandu Valley: Pashupatinath, Boudhanath and Swayambhunath.
Pashupatinath Temple
Pashupati is the most important Hindu site in Nepal. Dedicated to lord Shiva, the fierce god appears there in his benevolent aspect of Pashupati. A holy place often compared to Varanasi (in India), the last rites of Hindus are carried out on the banks of Bagmati river.
Boudhanath Stupa
Boudhanath is the largest Stupa in Asia. In the bygone days caravans after crossing the Himalayas arrived at the Stupa to thank lord Buddha when the trip went well. The eyes of the Buddha painted at the four cardinal points cast an observant gaze on men and their actions.
In the early morning you will drive to Pokhara. If you are lucky, you can look forward to breathtaking views of green mountains and villages.
When you get to Pokhara, you can see great views of Manaslu, Machhapuchhare, five peaks of Annapurna and others. The charming town of Pokhara has numerous lakes, known as the “tal” in Nepali. In the evening, strolling around the lakefront and exploring the numerous eateries is a great way to end the day.
In the morning you will embark on an one-hour drive to the starting point of the trek at Bijayapur Khola. The pleasant route first leads through rice fields and over a river, before the ascent leads up over a mountain ridge and through small villages to Kalikasthan. On the way you will have a picnic break at a nice rest area. In the village of Kalikasthan you spend the night in a simple guest house and can already enjoy the first views of the Annapurna peaks and the striking Machapuchhare..
After breakfast, you will walk down from the Modi River for 2 hrs, passing through the beautiful little villages and enjoying the fascinating views of the mountains of Lamjung Himal and Annapurna II. From here, another 3 hrs walk to Yangjakot village, where you will spend the night in a local lodge to get a real insight into the life of the village.
Leaving behind the lodge, you will descend gradually for 3 hours back down to the village of Chasu in the Modi Valley. Before starting the 2 hrs ascent to the terraced fields to Tangting, there will be an opportunity to rest and refuel. This village of Gurung is characteristic of the raw beauty of traditional hillside villages in Nepal. You will spend the night at the local lodge, with plenty of local interaction opportunities.
The trail continues along the bank of the river at a flat level before you reach the village of Khilan Gaon. After that, the path you follow is gently uphill for a few minutes and then for a few hours slowly goes up steeply. On the way, you pass the village of Parju. The trail climbs again to the village of Sikles – one of the oldest and largest villages of Gurung.
After breakfast, you climb to the view bridge of Rishi Danda (2220 m) for a snow slip thundering down off the mountainsides. Back at the village you get to explore the Gurung village, the museum, and the neighboring rhododendron forest in Sikles.
You climb for 3 and a half hours through the forest to reach the viewpoint of Tara Hilltop where a view of the Machapuchare, Annapurna II, III and IV awaits you. After that you will descend to Ghale Karha.
We hike to the road head at Sardi Khola (3hrs) and drive to Pokhara (1 hrs).
The rest of the afternoon is at leisure.
You will fly back to Kathmandu on a morning flight (30m) and drive to our hotel.
The rest of the day is at leisure for you to explore or just relax. In the evening, we meet again for a farewell dinner celebrating your trek.
An office representative will drive you to the Kathmandu International Airport 3 hrs prior to the scheduled flight time.
