Mera Peak (6,476 meters) is the highest trekking peak in Nepal, offering a breathtaking panorama of five of the world’s tallest mountains — Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Kanchenjunga. This 18-day expedition is ideal for fit trekkers looking to take their first step into Himalayan mountaineering, with moderate technical difficulty and strong safety support from an experienced climbing team.
Your journey begins with a scenic flight to Lukla, then takes you through pristine villages and less-crowded valleys of the Hinku region. After reaching Mera Peak Base Camp, you’ll summit via Mera La and return fully supported by professional climbing Sherpas.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Is Mera Peak a good choice for beginner climbers?
Yes. Mera is considered a non-technical trekking peak, ideal for strong trekkers with good fitness. Some experience with crampons and cold weather is helpful but not required.
2. How cold does it get at the summit?
Expect temperatures between –15°C to –25°C near the summit, especially on the early morning ascent.
3. What’s the summit day like?
Summit day begins around 2 AM. You’ll walk on glacier terrain with ropes and crampons, and use a fixed line near the final summit ridge. It takes 10–12 hours round trip.
4. Is prior climbing experience necessary?
Not strictly, but you must be physically fit and ready for altitude. We provide training in Khare before the summit.
5. When is the best time to climb Mera Peak?
Mid-April to May and October to mid-November offer the best weather and visibility.
6. Can I rent gear in Kathmandu?
Yes, nearly all personal gear can be rented in Kathmandu or in Khare at reasonable prices.
7. Do I need travel insurance?
Yes, with coverage for helicopter evacuation and trekking/climbing above 6,000 meters.
