We have fanatics gearing up to climb Mount Everest and other 8,000ers every year, and the idyllic leisure traveler strolling around the beautiful lake city of Pokhara. But wait! there is more. The foothills of Nepal provide ample views of the snowy peaks without going too high or too far. And for the first time trekkers in Nepal, the Royal Trek is the perfect mix of nature and nature.
Royal Trek is an easy hiking tour which takes you through the northeastern Pokhara Valley. On the way you can see views of the mountains of the Annapurna massif and accompanying range. This short trek is suitable for travelers who want to get a first impression of rural Nepal with its culture and the warm people and at the same time want to undertake an easy, not too strenuous hike that opens up great views of the mountains of the Himalayas. The route got its name because Prince Charles walked this trail in the 1980s. The trekking tour offers good opportunities to get an insight into the culture and way of life of the people in the small villages along the way.
Our version of the Royal Trek is suitable for all ages. The program has short walking days with 3 nights stopover in the romantic Pokhara city. This is a predecessor trek to the likes of Annapurna Circuit or the Mardi Himal Trek.
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by a representative from Keep Walking Nepal who will drop you off at your hotel. After check-in, depending upon what time you arrive, you can take a rest or stroll the streets of Thamel, a popular tourist hub in Kathmandu, for souvenir shopping.
In the evening there is a welcome dinner hosted by Keep Walking Nepal where you can sample delicious authentic Nepalese cuisine.
After breakfast, you begin a guided tour of some of the most historic and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu. Some of these landmarks are World Heritage Sites, including the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous “Monkey Temple” (Swayambhunath) and the Buddhist Shrine (Boudhanath), one of the largest Stupas in the world.
In the afternoon, your trek guide will brief you about the upcoming days and preparation requirements.
In the early morning, depending on your package, you will either drive on a tourist bus or a private transfer to Pokhara. If you are lucky, you can look forward to breathtaking views of green mountains and villages.
When you get to Pokhara, you can see great views of Manaslu, Machhapuchhare, five peaks of Annapurna and others. The charming town of Pokhara has numerous lakes, known as the “tal” in Nepali. In the evening, strolling around the lakefront and exploring the numerous eateries is a great way to end the day.
In the morning you will embark on an one-hour drive to the starting point of the trek at Bijayapur Khola. The pleasant route first leads through rice fields and over a river, before the ascent leads up over a mountain ridge and through small villages to Kalikasthan. On the way you will have a picnic break at a nice rest area. In the village of Kalikasthan you spend the night in a simple guest house and can already enjoy the first views of the Annapurna peaks and the striking Machapuchare.
At breakfast you will be spoiled with a wonderful mountain view. The day’s hiking takes you through many small villages and settlements along a ridge and through rhododendron forests, where truly regal views of Annapurna and Lamjung Himal open up. After a short but steep ascent through the forest, you will reach the Gurung village of Syaglung.
Great panoramic views of the Himalayan mountain range will also accompany you throughout the day. The path first goes downhill through beautiful mountain forests and several original mountain villages, where you get an insight into the way of life of the local population. After the lunch break, the path leads towards Chisopani with a few short ascents and descents. From the village of Chisopani, you will have the best views during this trek that ranges from the Annapurna massif to the Manaslu.
The last stage of the hike initially leads downhill into the fantastically beautiful valley between Lake Rupa and Lake Begnas. Another short ascent to the ridge of Sundari Danda, from where there are again magnificent views of the mountain giants, before finally going down to the shore of Lake Begnas. An impressive hike through a wonderful landscape is coming to an end.
We take a boat ride across the lake and drive to Pokhara. You can either choose to visit the lakes and do some shopping or just relax at the hotel.
Your guide will take you on a tour of Pokhara valley. Some of the city’s finest attractions on this half-day Pokhara tour include Devi’s Fall, Gupteshor Mahadev, Mahendra Cave, Bat Cave (Chamero Gupha), Peace Stupa, Tibetan Camp, Seti River George.
In the early morning, depending upon your package, you will either take a tourist bus or a private transport to Kathmandu. Observing the scenic landscape along the way makes the long bus ride interesting.
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, your guide will take you to your hotel. The rest of the day can be spent at leisure or maybe doing some last-minute shopping or exploring all of the sights that you missed on your first day in Kathmandu.
Your journey comes to an end today. If you have time, you can go shopping or sightseeing on your own or requested a sightseeing tour through Keep Walking Nepal.
A representative from the Keep Walking Nepal will drop you to the airport approximately 3 hours before the scheduled flight.

Here is a list of what you might want to pack for the hike. Please take this as a starting point. You’ll need layers of warmer clothing during the winter. We provide a 75 liter duffel bag for you to use for the trek. It will be given to you during your pre-trip meeting in Kathmandu. The duffle bag is yours to keep. Also, you can rent sleeping bag and down jacket with us at the additional fee of USD 35 for each once you are in Kathmandu.
